Presentation board#
Working material for how the project becomes visible — 31 August 2026
This board holds provisional visual, editorial, and interface work. It exists so a direction can become concrete enough to inspect without quietly turning an attractive mockup into gallery doctrine.
The canonical account of the project remains in docs/. Material
on this board may challenge, sharpen, or eventually change those documents, but
promotion is a separate editorial decision.
Current direction#
Project name: MOOI NIET., a Goose Group gallery.
The name acts as a local, irreverent refusal of art reduced to prettiness, lifestyle completion, popularity, institutional fluency, or an asset whose appreciation proves its value.
The active public surface is the corpus itself. It behaves like a working binder: part operating manual, part portfolio, and part architectural plan. Canonical documents, provisional studies, and contributor notebooks remain visibly distinct, and the interface adds as little interpretation as possible.
The first presentation pass previously tested three registers in one surface:
- Poster — blunt public language and the MOOI NIET. name.
- Work — the artwork leads without becoming a thumbnail or décor mockup.
- Ledger — selection, money, rights, circulation, and stewardship are shown as ordinary facts rather than claimed as brand values.
That pass is retained as evidence, not as the current public direction. Future edition surfaces should emerge from real artists, works, mechanics, and permissions rather than from an identity applied in advance.
Board documents#
- Visual brief — purpose, audience, posture, hierarchy, desired qualities, refusals, and calibration questions.
- Visual system — provisional rules for identity, typography, colour, composition, images, records, motion, and interaction.
- Content system — authorship, source, timing, permission, and the public forms content may take.
- Edition system — editions as the primary presentation unit, their mechanics and lifecycle, and the separate WORKS/STORE surface.
- Language system — English as the default, the high bar for Dutch interventions, and treatment of artist language and translation.
- GUNFACTOR — a deliberately arbitrary, publicly editable pseudo-metric available for a future edition study.
- Secret system — game design without gamification across editions, host experience, physical work, and the website.
- First presentation pass — standalone rendered page.
- Editable presentation fragment — the small source fragment from which the standalone page is generated.
View the presentation#
Open mooi-niet-presentation.html in a browser.
To regenerate the standalone file after editing the fragment, use the bundled visualisation renderer available in the working environment. The fragment is the source; the standalone page is the convenient review surface.
How to iterate#
- Name the premise being tested before changing its appearance.
- Change one consequential variable at a time when comparison matters.
- Keep conceptual decisions in the brief, system decisions in the system documents, and rendered examples in presentation files.
- Use real work and artist-approved material as soon as it becomes available.
- Mark invented content as placeholder content; never let it become apparent evidence.
- Record why a direction changed, including what it was accidentally rewarding or communicating.
- Do not promote board language into the foundation merely because it works as a headline.
Decision register#
The consolidated decision register separates project decisions from standing calibration prompts and edition-specific choices. It currently has no active project-level questions. Reopen it only when an encounter or operating fact creates a consequential choice that the foundation and a real edition brief cannot already answer.
